NaNoWriMeme

October 30, 2003

Taken from sparkyred.

BASIC STATS:

NaNo ID: Carfiniel
NaNo since: Last week

Working title: For the Grace Go I
WIP Genre: Dark urban/modern fantasy with a spiritual frisson
Projected word count: Hopefully 85,000 or so (2850 a day)

AT THE START: DO YOU…
Have an Outline?
Not exactly
Scene-by-scene? Nope
Know how it starts? I have the starting image in my mind. Vividly.
Know how it ends? Not a clue, but hopefully with more cheer than most urban fantasy I’ve read.
Have your climax in order? Nah.
Know your main characters yet? Yes, though a couple of them need serious fleshing and two need names.
Have a particular tone in mind? Erm…no.
Plan to Draw on your own experiences? *quotes sparkyred*: Well, how many times have you had to steal a motorbike to escape from several demons who want to rip off your head? None? Exactly. Hahahaha!

IS YOUR WORK GOING TO BE:
Funny?
I can only pray.
Serious? Yes.
Sad? I imagine so.
Semi-Autobiographical? No.
Based on another story? Not exactly. I’ve gleaned ideas from a couple of songs. I imagine Dante is going to play some part, because I like him. Especially Inferno.
Influenced by any authors/current publications? Only in that I’ve read a lot of Charles de Lint, and while I like him, I often feel strong disquiet and vaguely dirty after finishing some of his stuff. I’d like my novel to leave readers with a sense of hope at the end.

HOW HAVE MUCH YOU PLANNED? HAVE YOU USED:
A paper journal?
Um, a notebook, yeah.
Multicolored pens? Of course. Mostly purple at the moment, with some black and green.
A computer? Obviously.
Index cards? Nope, though that’s a thought.
Lists? Of course! I thrive on lists!
Bulleted lists? Yes, because I’m terribly geeky that way.
Plot Charts? I’ve done these before but haven’t attempted it yet on this one.
Character Charts? Nope.
Character formulas? What? What are these? No.
Favorite writing resource: Caffeine.

ODDS AND ENDS
A line you would like to use:
“Hell says hello.”
A scene you would like to include: Poppy standing in front of the door to the women’s restroom, not letting a girl out until she washes her hands. “Do you realize how fekking gross that is?”
A concept you would like to explore: Friendship and faith (in oneself as well as God)
A cliche you would like to avoid: 1001 “Christian novel” cliches
A character you would like to use: Wish I could borrow Gerald Tarrant for a while.

FORWARD THINKING
Do you expect to be able to complete it?
Woo, what a question. Yes. I think. I hope.
Do you intend to complete it? Definitely.
What do you expect to get out of this month of frantic writing? Seriously shaky hands, bloodshot eyes, irritability, and alienated parents. (Oh, wait, do I have these already? All except the parent part! Heh.)
